Product Description

Klipsch RP-504CW II Reference Premier Quad 5.25″ Center Walnut

Top-tier center-channel performance from Klipsch

Klipsch’s Reference Premiere speaker line was one of my go-tos as a Crutchfield Product Advisor. For 2022, the company has revamped the line and added a slew of new driver enhancements. The RP504CW II is the new RP lineup’s flagship centre channel speaker, with an updated tweeter and improved driver motors.

Refined horn and updated tweeter

The most important speaker in a home theatre system is the centre channel speaker. It handles two important aspects of a film’s soundtrack: dialogue and centre channel effects (like explosions). Klipsch improved the tweeter on the speaker for better home theatre performance than ever before.

The vented housing of the 1″ LTS (Linear Travel Suspension) tweeter helps to reduce standing waves, which can degrade sound quality. It’s housed in a Tractrix® horn with a widened mouth for improved soundstaging and directivity. To keep the highs smooth and non-fatiguing, the horn has a soft silicone face and a unique phase plug.

Punchy drivers for maximum impact

Both sides of the central tweeter are flanked by two 5-1/4″ Ceremetallic woofers. Larger woofers give sound effects like explosions plenty of punch. Metallic woofers aren’t new to Klipsch speakers, but the motor structures behind the cones have been significantly improved.

Each woofer has a voice coil that is 70% larger for improved control, speed, and accuracy. The woofers also have new aluminium shorting rings, which help to reduce distortion and allow the drivers to handle slightly more power.

A ported cabinet for deeper bass

The RP504CW II’s cabinet features a rear-firing Tractrix port that contributes to the speaker’s deep bass response. The horn shape of the port encourages more efficient airflow into and out of the cabinet, reducing port noise and low-frequency distortion.

It is critical to consider where and how you will position your centre channel speaker. Because this speaker has a ported cabinet, it should not be placed against a wall or against the back of your entertainment centre. Instead, I recommend pulling the speaker away from the wall to give it some “breathing room.” The bass response of the speaker will appreciate it.
