Klipsch RP-8000FB II Reference Premiere Floorstanding Speakers
Klipsch’s flagship Reference Premiere tower speaker
Klipsch’s Reference Premiere tower speakers have long been a favourite of Crutchfield customers. Their powerful, dynamic sound makes listening to albums and film soundtracks an exciting and engaging experience. The RP8000FB II is the largest direct-firing tower speaker in Klipsch’s newly updated RP lineup, and it packs a powerful punch. It has dual 8″ woofers for punchy bass and midrange, as well as a 1″ horn-loaded tweeter for clear highs.
Upgraded tweeter and horn
The vented housing of the 1″ LTS (Linear Travel Suspension) tweeter helps to reduce standing waves, which can degrade sound quality. It’s housed in a Tractrix® horn with a widened mouth for improved soundstaging and directivity. This means a larger overall “sweet spot” and better imaging within that sweet spot. To keep the highs smooth and non-fatiguing, the horn has a soft silicone face and a unique phase plug.
Under-the-hood driver upgrades
Metallic drivers aren’t new to Klipsch speakers, but the company has improved the motor structures behind the cones significantly. Each woofer has a voice coil that is 70% larger for improved control, speed, and accuracy. The woofers also have new aluminium shorting rings, which help to reduce distortion and allow the drivers to handle more power.
A new cabinet for better sound
Klipsch also improved the cabinet on the RP8000FB II. This time, they added additional bracing throughout the cabinet and divided it into sections. This improves clarity by reducing sound-altering cabinet resonance and vibration.
Two rear-firing Tractrix ports in the cabinet help to deepen the speaker’s bass response. Their distinctive horn shape encourages more efficient airflow into and out of the cabinet, reducing port noise and low-frequency distortion.
Because this speaker has a ported cabinet, it should not be placed against a wall.
Instead, I recommend giving the speaker some “breathing room” by pulling it slightly away from the wall. Its bass response will be grateful.
Bi-amp or bi-wire for even better sound
On the back of the RP8000FB II, there are two sets of binding posts. These allow you to bi-amp or bi-wire your speaker to get the best sound out of it.
Klipsch RP504CB II Reference Premier Quad 5.25″ Center Black
Top-tier center-channel performance from Klipsch
Klipsch’s Reference Premiere speaker line was one of my go-tos as a Crutchfield Product Advisor. For 2022, the company has revamped the line and added a slew of new driver enhancements. The RP504CB II is the new RP lineup’s flagship centre channel speaker, with an updated tweeter and improved driver motors.
Refined horn and updated tweeter
The most important speaker in a home theatre system is the centre channel speaker. It handles two important aspects of a film’s soundtrack: dialogue and centre channel effects (like explosions). Klipsch improved the tweeter on the speaker for better home theatre performance than ever before.
The vented housing of the 1″ LTS (Linear Travel Suspension) tweeter helps to reduce standing waves, which can degrade sound quality. It’s housed in a Tractrix® horn with a widened mouth for improved soundstaging and directivity. To keep the highs smooth and non-fatiguing, the horn has a soft silicone face and a unique phase plug.
Punchy drivers for maximum impact
Both sides of the central tweeter are flanked by two 5-1/4″ Ceremetallic woofers. Larger woofers give sound effects like explosions plenty of punch. Metallic woofers aren’t new to Klipsch speakers, but the motor structures behind the cones have been significantly improved.
Each woofer has a voice coil that is 70% larger for improved control, speed, and accuracy. The woofers also have new aluminium shorting rings, which help to reduce distortion and allow the drivers to handle slightly more power.
A ported cabinet for deeper bass
The RP504CB II’s cabinet features a rear-firing Tractrix port that contributes to the speaker’s deep bass response. The horn shape of the port encourages more efficient airflow into and out of the cabinet, reducing port noise and low-frequency distortion.
It is critical to consider where and how you will position your centre channel speaker. Because this speaker has a ported cabinet, it should not be placed against a wall or against the back of your entertainment centre. Instead, I recommend pulling the speaker away from the wall to give it some “breathing room.” The bass response of the speaker will appreciate it.
Klipsch RP-502SB II Reference Premier Dual 5.25″ Surround Speakers, Black
Klipsch’s Reference Premiere RP502SB II Two-Way Surround Speakers in an attractive ebony finish will fill your living room or home theatre with lifelike sound. The bidirectional design and proprietary Klipsch WDST (Wide Dispersion Surround Technology) emit sound effects and ambient surround sound in multiple directions, allowing it to fit almost any room size and deal with less-than-ideal speaker placement. This second generation has a larger soundstage and more accurate sound directivity due to 70% larger voice coils and a larger Tractrix horn. Through dual 1″ titanium LTS vented tweeters and dual 5.25″ Cerametallic cone woofers, they can each handle up to 100W RMS or 400W peak.
90 x 90° Silicon Composite Hybrid Tractrix Horn
Klipsch’s proprietary Tractrix geometry in the horn is specifically designed to efficiently transfer the tweeters’ high frequencies to the listener. This Tractrix horn from the second generation is larger for better directivity and a wider overall soundstage. This level of audio fidelity and smooth frequency response is achieved by combining the Tractrix horn with a phase plug and a compressed moulded silicon face.
LTS Titanium Diaphragm Tweeters
The LTS (Linear Travel Suspension) from Klipsch’s Reference line works to reduce distortion for more detailed audio reproduction.
Vented Tweeter Design
This pair of surround speakers’ tweeter housing clarifies the high-frequency signal by reducing standing waves that would otherwise create unwanted harmonics.
Cerametallic Woofers
The Cerametallic woofers are another distinguishing feature of Klipsch’s Reference Premiere speakers. These surround speakers feature dual 5.25″ woofers and a Cerametallic construction that keeps them lightweight but rigid, maximising acoustic efficiency and minimising distortion. Voice coils in the second generation are 70% larger in diameter to ensure flawless reproduction with improved power handling, cone control, and linearity. The addition of aluminium shorting rings improves power handling and reduces distortion, while the motor structure itself improves transit response and adds more control with increased speed and accuracy.
Improved Input Panel
The RP502SB II has audiophile-grade wiring and easily accessible aluminium binding posts for any type of connection.
Premium Construction
Klipsch employs internally braced, furniture-grade MDF for a long-lasting and appealing appearance. Satin-painted baffles with a scratch-resistant coating are included in the ebony vinyl finish.
Magnetic Grille
You can leave the copper-colored woofer and tweeter exposed or hide them behind a speaker grille. The grille is magnetically attached to the RP502SB II’s front.
